The basic conversion
An inverter converts DC electricity into AC. Grid-connected equipment normally coordinates with the grid; a system intended to provide outage backup also needs the equipment and design to operate safely when the grid is unavailable.
Understand the labels
An off-grid inverter supplies an independent AC system. A grid-tied solar inverter is principally designed to operate with a grid. A hybrid inverter brings solar and battery functions together, but its exact backup, generator and charging features remain model-specific.
Ask one practical question
“Which circuits will remain powered if the grid fails?” Request an answer tied to the selected model, transfer arrangement and battery. The word “hybrid” alone is not an outage-performance specification.
